That from Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Bill Fraser who told us their consultants identified significant property impacts including the local fire department, the recreation centre and private residences.
We asked Transporation Minister Bill Fraser why a shuttle service from DTI is not being offered this year.
He says his department is monitoring the situation and they remain in close contact with the Department of Environment and Local Government which has the contingency plan to get people to the mainland.
He says if an emergency occurrs there are boats on stand-by and they can be accessed if needed.
He adds if there is an emergency while the road is closed, residents are encouraged to call 911 and emergency services will be deployed and dispatched.
Fraser adds the situation is being monitored 24 hours a day.
