Fredericton’s police chief says her city continues to heal after last summer’s fatal shooting.
Four people were shot and killed on August 10, 2018, including constables Sara Burns and Robb Costello.
Chief Leanne Fitch visited Saint John last week to recognize city police officers and employees who helped following the tragedy.
“Even though it’s eight months since the shooting, in some respects it still feels like yesterday for those of us that are family and co-workers,” said Fitch.
Some officers remain off work as they continue to cope with and heal from the tragedy.

Fitch said the force has worked very hard to make sure its members are getting the proper support.
“Our aim is to get people back to work, but only when they’re ready,” she said. “What we know from other agencies is that it’s probably about a good two years before you kind of reach your new normal.”
Fitch said she is tremendously proud of how her staff and city have moved forward in the weeks and months following the shooting.
“Every single day, the families of our fallen are in our thoughts and prayers,” she said. “A day doesn’t go by that we don’t think about them.”
