French President Emmanuel Macron will not be visiting New Brunswick in July after all.
Macron was scheduled to visit for the first Canada-France Joint Council of Ministers.
It was meant to deepen the bilateral relationship between the two countries and promote shared priorities.
However, the premier’s office was notified by the French Consulate earlier this week that the visit has been postponed.
Snap elections are currently taking place in France, with voters heading to the polls on June 30 and July 7.
Premier Blaine Higgs first let the cat out of the bag about the president’s trip on June 6.
Higgs suggested the visit is a result of the tourism minister’s controversial trip to Europe last fall.
However, the president’s trip has reportedly been in the works for a number of years now.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau confirmed Macron’s visit in a news release later that same day.
There is no word yet on when the visit may be rescheduled for.
