Friday Morning Sports For February 20th

Scott Ring of St. George won gold in the men’s individual air pistol competition at the Canada Winter Games in Prince George. In ringette, Team New Brunswick lost to Manitoba 7-4 in semi final play and will go for the bronze medal today against Quebec. In women’s hockey, New Brunswick losing to B-C 4-1. In men’s curling, New Brunswick over Quebec 9-5 and in Wheelchair basketball, New Brunswick lost to Ontario 60-56.

In the NHL, Florida rallied from a 2-0 deficit to edge Montreal in a shootout 3-2….. Jaroslav Halak tied the team record for wins in a season as the Islanders defeated league leading Nashville 5-2……Vancouver downed the Rangers in a shootout 5-4…..Columbus got by Pittsburgh 2-1….It was San Jose over Dallas 5-2….Washington beat Winnipeg 5-1 and Buffalo edged Philadelphia in a shootout 3-2.

The Mill Rats built a 24 point half time lead at Harbour Station only to see it evaporate down to just 2 but they held on for a 119-117 win over the Mississauga Power. Kenny Jones led the way with 26 points.

At the Scotties Tournament of Hearts, Sylvie Robichaud of New Brunswick scored two in the 10th end for a 6-5 win over Rachel Homan. Val Sweeting of Alberta lost for the first time to Saskatchewan 9-1 and will play Jennifer Jones of Manitoba to see who gets first seed.

The San Diego Chargers and Oakland Raiders announcing they have collaborated on a proposal to build a privately financed $1.7 billion stadium in Carson, California, the two teams would share if they relocate to the Los Angeles market.
