Friday Morning Sports For February 24th

The Saint John Riptide beat the Kitchener-Waterloo Titans in basketball at Harbour Station 121-99. Gabe Freeman led the Riptide with 39 points with Darin Mency adding 20 with 7 assists. The game ended with a bench clearing brawl that spilled into the floor seating. Police were called and took statements.

In the NHL, the New York Rangers tied the game in the third period and then scored in the shootout for a 2-1 win over Toronto…..The New York Islanders shut out Montreal in the Bell Centre 3-0….Brad Marchand and David Pastrnak scored their 26th goals of the season as the Boston Bruins improved to 5 and 1 under coach Bruce Cassidy with a 4-1 victory over Los Angeles…..Patrick Kane scored three goals in Chicago’s 6-3 win over Arizona….In other play, it was Calgary 3 Tampa Bay 2 and Nashville 4 Colorado 2.

The Q-Plex will host on May 27th the induction of six new members into the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame. Team Hanlon will be among the inductees. Curlers Heidi Hanlon, Kathy Floyd, Jane Arsenau and Judy Blanchard won Senior Provincial, National and World championship titles in 2011-2012. Also being recognised are Brian and Henry Flood of Renforth, a lightweight pair in rowing throughout the early 1980’s. They won three gold, two silver and three bronze medals in their first three years of national competition.

In the NBA, it was Golden State 123 Los Angeles Clippers 113 with the Warriors scoring 50 points in the third quarter……Cleveland 119 New York 104…..Portland 112 Orlando 103…Detroit 114 Charlotte 108 (OT)…..Houston 129 New Orleans 99 and Sacramento 116 Denver 100.
