The Montreal Canadiens have made a big trade with Tampa Bay for 22 year old forward Jonathon Drouin, who was a big star in the “Q” with Halifax. In exhange, the Canadiens are sending Mikhail Sergachev, a first round draft selection last year, along with a conditional second round pick next year to the Lightning.

In the Majors, Khris Davis hit a bloop single that drove in two runs in the bottom of the 10th inning to give Oakland an 8-7 win over the New York Yankees for their third loss in a row….. Pinch hitter Ty Kelly doubled home the only run of the game in the 8th inning as Philadelphia shut out Chris Sale and the Boston Red Sox 1-0. In other play, it was Cleveland 12 Los Angeles Dodgers 5…..Minnesota 6 Seattle 2….Chicago White Sox 5 Baltimore 2….Washington 8 NY Mets 3…..Detroit 5 Tampa Bay 3….Milwaukee 6 St. Louis 4….Colorado 10 San Francisco 9 and Kansas City 7 Los Angeles Angels 2.

The Baseball Hall of Fame has decided to maintain its ban on admitting Pete Rose who bet on baseball but has more hits than anybody else in Major League history. The Cincinnati Reds will be unveiling a statue of Rose tomorrow.

In New Brunswick Senior Baseball, the Saint John Alpines over the Fredericton Royals 4-2 as pitcher Jack Shannon struck out 13 Royals and Devan Thomas hit a solo homer for the Alpines who play in Fredericton tonight and in Moncton Sunday night.
