Friday Morning Sports For March 6th

The Saint John Mill Rats lost to the Island Storm, 124-103 in the opener of their first round, best of five series. Game 2 will be played Saturday night at Harbour Station.

In Major Midget hockey, the Saint John Vitos lost to the Fredericton Canadiens 6-2 in the second game of their 8 point series and trail 4 points to nothing.

In the NHL, Los Angeles edged Montreal in a shootout 4-3 after tying the game in the last minute. The Canadiens have lost three straight out west…… Calgary got by Boston 4-3 in a shootout. The Bruins have been clinging to the second wildcard spot in the Eastern Conference playoff race….Tampa Bay downed the Leafs 4-2…..The Islanders defeated Nashville 4-3……Former Sea Dog Jonathon Huberdeau scored his 10th goal of the season but Florida lost to Dallas in a shootout 4-3…..Philadelphia over St. Louis 3-1….Vancouver lost to Arizona in a shootout 3-2 and Minnesota edged Washington 2-1.

Northern Ontario’s Brad Jacobs, who’s 10 and 1, and Brad Gushue of Newfoundland and Labrador at 9 and 2 will square off tonight at the Brier with the winner advancing directly to Sunday’s championship game. Gushue defeated Jacobs 6-5. New Brunswick is 2 and 8 after losing to P-E-I 8-4 and to B-C 7-4.

Mike Ribeiro’s former nanny in Texas is suing the Predators center, accusing him of sexually assaulting her and his wife of threatening her in 2012. She’s seeking over $1 million in damages along with other relief.
