Friday Morning Sports For September 22nd

The Saint John Sea Dogs kicked off the regular season with a 4-1 loss to the Halifax Mooseheads. Daniel Hardie scored the only goal for Saint John. The Sea Dogs honoured their 2017 President Cup title by raising the championship banner to the rafters. They also named Joe Veleno as team captain. The Sea Dogs play Cape Breton at Harbour Station tomorrow night at 7:00.

In the Majors, both the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees had the night off. The Toronto Blue Jays lost to Kansas City 1-0. Former Blue Jay Melky Cabrera had three hits and the game’s only run batted in. Cleveland won for the 27th time in their last 28 games, 4-1 over the Los Angeles Angels are just one win shy of another record set back in 1884 by the Providence Grays who won 28 of 29 games………In a National League showdown, the Chicago Cubs downed Milwaukee 5-3 in 10 innings on a two run homer by Kris Bryant after tying the game in the 9th. The Cubs now lead the Brewers in the Central Division by 4 and a half games. In other play, it was the Los Angeles Dodgers 5 Philadelphia 4…..Baltimore 3 Tampa Bay 1…..St. Louis 8 Cincinnati 5…..Minnesota 12 Detroit 1….Atlanta 3 Washington 2…Chicago White Sox 3 Houston 1….Texas 4 Seattle 2 and San Diego 3 Colorado 0.

In the NFL, Jared Goff threw three touchdown passes as the Los Angeles Rams outlasted San Francisco 41-39.
