Friday Morning Sports For September 4th

The NFL is appealing the court ruling that nullifies the 4 game suspension handed New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady over the use of deflated footballs during the A-F-C championship game last January against Indianapolis. In making his ruling, U.S. District Judge Richard Berman was critical of NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell for going too far in dispensing “his own brand of industrial justice.” Goodell will not be attending the Patriots’ home opener next week against the Steelers.

An abbreviated Major League Baseball schedule last night with the Blue Jays and Yankees off. The Blue Jays are at home against Baltimore tonight while the Yankees host Tampa Bay. Toronto leads the American League East by a game and a half.

The Los Angeles Dodgers called up their top prospect, shortstop Corey Seager, who went 2 for 4 and drove in two runs in a 10-7 loss to San Diego. San Francisco failed to pick up any ground in the West, losing to Colorado 11-3…….In the Central Division, Pittsburgh was swept by Milwaukee 5-3. The Pirates begin a big three game series tonight in St. Louis.

It has been announced Halifax will have a new franchise in the National Basketball League next season after the Rainmen went out of business.
