The Fundy Region Solid Waste Commission receiving permission from the Fundy Region Service Commission to access funding for the purchase of a temporary cap to cap cells.
General Manager Marc MacLeod tells CHSJ News they want to move water off the cells in order to reduce the leachate.
He says they made the request because they have noticed a big increase in rainfall with four ‘one in one hundred year storms’ last year and four records months of rainfall this year.
MacLeod says it will allow to them to cut the trucking by half and they can put the cover on to recover gas, reduce water and odour and prevent some of the scavengers like seagulls, rats and bears.
