Funding Solution Approved For West Side Splash Pad

It looks like the west side is going to get that splash pad after all, but not everyone is thrilled by the decision.

Under a funding solution passed by the common council the successful contractor will have to deliver $200 thousand worth of the splash pad equipment required for the project to the City by March 31st.

This, in turn, would meet the deadline for a $100 thousand contribution by the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency. ACOA doesn’t require the entire project be completed by April 1, 2018

Councillor David Merrithew, the finance committee chair, was the only one who voted no saying with a very tough budget coming down in a couple of months, citizens will see that splash pads are not needed.

However Deputy Mayor Shirley McAlary said the council had originally supported the project and it would be bad to change that now when they have a funding solution in place.
