It is a day residents in the Gagetown and Jemseg areas have been waiting nearly five years for.
The Gagetown ferry will return to the waters of the Saint John River on Sunday.
The service was scrapped by the previous Liberal government in Feb. 2016 as part of their strategic program review.
The Higgs government had committed to bringing back the ferry and announced its return on June 15.
In a previous interview, Gagetown resident Wilf Hiscock said not having the ferry had a big impact on the local tourism and agricultural sectors.
“Some of the businesses were suffering. Farmers were cut off completely from their farms. Tourism was way, way down,” said Hiscock. “The ferry is absolutely necessary for this area.”
The ferry will run seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. until sometime this fall.
