Gallant Gov’t Unveils “Tuition Relief for the Middle Class”

New Brunswick students who don’t qualify for the province’s Free Tuition Program may qualify for a newly announced initiative instead.

The provincial government has unveiled Tuition Relief for the Middle Class, which could provide students with a non-repayable bursary of up to 98 percent of their tuition.

According to Premier Brian Gallant, the new program combined with the current Free Tuition Program is expected to help 70 percent of the province’s students.

“It will be available to New Brunswick students who are enrolled full-time in an undergraduate degree, diploma or certificate program at a publicly-funded university or college in the province on or after August 1, 2017,” he stated.

Based on family size and income, the program’s progressive scale means the amount of tuition relief decreases as the student’s family income increases.

In another education-related matter, Gallant also announced the province will provide health care coverage for international students.
