Gas Smell Leads To An Expected Break For North End Workers

An unexpected mid-morning break for workers at Hilyard Place on Main Street.

At least 25 workers were evacuated as a precaution after reports of a possible natural gas leak in the building.

Many people stood around chatting while they waited for the all clear and many were happy it’s a mild day.

Fire crews arrived and couldn’t find any readings.

Platoon Chief Kevin Comeau tells us the communications centre got several calls about a gas odour in the area.

“At this point we believe it may have been an odour from outside that came from their H-VAC system but everything is at zero readings” Comeau said.

Initial calls suggested this event was happening at 400 Main street, Place 400, but that was incorrect.
