Saint John police are asking drivers to use caution around the railway crossing on Thorne Avenue.
Police say the crossing gates and lights are out of service until further notice.
In a news release Wednesday, they said New Brunswick Southern Railway has ordered a new part to fix the problem.
Until then, trains will use their whistle when they approach the crossing.
