Getting shovels in the ground by this fall and opening two yeras later is the goal for the $24-million Field House project at Exhibition Park.
That’s according to Bill MacMackin, who delivered a presentation to Common Council updating the members on the project at the latest meeting.
“Our goals ultimately around that are if we could secure funding before the fall of 2016 we could start construction in 2016. We’d be doing site work, we’d be doing some of the rough ground work around the water area, the wetland area which will control flooding around the site,” says MacMackin.
The funding model for the project is divided between donors, the province, the feds and the city.
Mayor Mel Norton has said the $3.5-million commitment from the city is conditional on funding from other levels of government and from the community. He notes that the city will not be pressing any other level of government for funding support for the field house or any other project until the City Market project funding is completed.
MacMackin says they’re actively working with the community to raise money and have been working hard with the province and federal government in trying to make progress with them.
