Green Party Leader Calling For Action In Wake Of Truth And Reconciliation Report

A call to action in the report by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission is released if reconciliation with Aboriginal people is to succeed.

Provincial Green Party Leader David Coon says M-L-A’s have to step up top the plate and take the necessary steps to safeguard and promote the languages and cultures of First Nations.

Coon is calling on Premier Brian Gallant to visit First Nation communities to talk about how best to move forward and report back to the Legislature.

According to the report, the odds of dying in a residential school were the same as soldiers serving in the Second World War.

The Truth and Reconciliation Commission is also recommending a public inquiry be held into missing and murdered aboriginal women which the Harper Government has resisted.
