Green Party Leader Looks Back On 2018

The leader of the provincial Green party says 2018 has been a good year for his party with the election of three MLAs, including himself, in the legislature.

With four parties now represented, David Coon said he has noticed some co-operation in the house and has been thrilled with the response to his caucus.

“Back and forth between myself and my caucus members and a whole number of cabinet ministers on important issues,” Coon said. “Those conversations, I hope, will continue.”

Coon said he would like to see more collaboration in the legislature to help solve some of the real problems this province has.

When it comes to the Progressive Conservative government’s capital budget released earlier in December, Coon admits it was not what everyone was hoping for.

“Like many around the province, I was disappointed with the number of projects that were well underway that have been put on hold or, in some cases, like the Centennial Building project [in Fredericton], have been cancelled,” he said.

As the MLA for Fredericton South, Coon said he was pleased to see an ongoing project at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital in Fredericton will continue.
