The New Brunswick economy is losing out on economic growth because a local food strategy hasn’t been spelled out according to Provincial Green Party leader David Coon who’s calling for the creation of a Department of Rural and Community Development.
Coon estimates New Brunswickers spend $2.5 billion a year on food and beverages, most of them imported. He says if 40 per cent of thaht was spent locally, it would mean a billion dollar injection into the provincial economy.
