Construction work on Harbour Bridge in Saint John has been extended for a second time, according to transportation officials.
This year’s phase of the multi-year rehabilitation project, which was supposed to be finished by Oct. 15, was initially extended to Nov. 30.
But the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure said the bridge will now remain down to two lanes for an additional week until Dec. 7.
Spokesperson Mark Taylor said the bridge will reopen to four-lane traffic later that day or the next.
Taylor said crews needed a bit more time to complete some of the rehabilitation work, such as enhanced waterproofing.
Traffic along Harbour Bridge has been down to one lane in each direction since the construction began in early June.
Work has been taking place on the western end of the eastbound lanes, forcing eastbound traffic to be diverted to the westbound passing lane.
The Chesley Drive eastbound off-ramp and westbound on-ramp will also remain closed until Dec. 7 or 8.
Work on the westbound lanes at the western end of the structure is scheduled for 2022.
