We’re not getting the best bang for our health care buck, according to John McGarry, C-E-O of Horizon Health. He’s advocating a new strategy is needed because what we’re doing now isn’t working with obesity not moving in the right direction and too many people in the province are smoking as well as drinking too much.
When it comes to smoking, McGarry says 16 hundred cigarette butts were picked up in just one day in an area of the Regional Hospital that’s designated as no smoking which is the equivalent of 80 packs. The Regional Hospital becomes a no smoking zone in September. 61 hospital employees are enrolled in the smoking cessation programme.
