The Department of Health has released details of its $153.2-million capital budget for the 2022-23 fiscal year.
Nearly $104 million has been set aside for ongoing major renovation and addition projects.
Among the major projects is nearly $12 million for the maternal newborn unit project at The Moncton Hospital.
More than $13 million is for work on a new medical and surgical ICU and an oncology unit at the Saint John Regional Hospital, and for improvements to the New Brunswick Heart Centre.
Just over $40 million has been set aside for an addition and renovation project at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital in Fredericton.
There is also more than $23 million for continuing additions and renovations at the Chaleur Regional Hospital in Bathurst, and $5.3 million for construction of the addiction and rehabilitation centre in Campbellton.
“Dependable public health care is one of our government’s priorities,” Health Minister Dorothy Shephard said in a news release.
“We need to focus upon addressing the province’s infrastructure deficit while supporting sustainable economic recovery.”
The department has also set aside $49 for capital improvements and the purchase of equipment across the province.
Department staff will work with regional health authorities to determine how that funding will be distributed.
