The Department of Health has unveiled its $128.2-million capital budget for the upcoming year.

A total of $83.9 is earmarked for ongoing major renovation and addition capital projects across the province.

That includes nearly $32.7 million for an addition and renovation project at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital in Fredericton.

The Moncton Hospital will get more than $17 million for the maternal newborn unit project and the coronary care unit project.

There is also nearly $5 million for ongoing renovations at the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont Hospital in Moncton.

Nearly $4 million will be spent on design and engineering work for construction of a new Centre of Excellence for youth in Moncton.

More than $6.4 million has been set aside for a new medical and surgical ICU and an oncology unit at the Saint John Regional Hospital and for improvements to the New Brunswick Heart Centre.

The health department has also allocated $44.3 million for capital improvements and the purchase of equipment.

Department staff will work with regional health authorities to determine how that funding will be distributed.
