Saint John residents are asked to do their part to help keep fire hydrants clear of snow and ice this winter.
The city says keeping fire hydrants accessible and clear of snow remains a top priority for their staff.
But with more than 2,400 hydrants located throughout the city, that can sometimes be a difficult task.
“When snow is deposited on fire hydrants, it can be difficult for firefighters and Saint John Water crews to locate and access them during an emergency,” the city said in a news release.
Residents and snow removal contractors should be mindful of hydrants when clearing roadways, driveways and parking lots.
If you have a hydrant on or near your property, the city encourages you to help clear away the snow if it is safe to do so.
