Holiday Season Increases Fear Of Identity Theft Among Canadian Shoppers

With more and more Canadians switching to online shopping for the holiday season, it is increasingly important to protect yourself online.

A recent Equifax Canada survey says 49% of Canadians are worried about the risk of identity theft when shopping online.

The Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre says in 2014, the total reportd dollar loss by fraud victims was more than $74 million.

They also say once victimized, it can take years to repair the damage inflicted to your credit rating by reckless behaviour by the criminals.

If you are shopping online, you should do your research to ensure a website or company is legitimate, and be wary, if a deal seems to good to be true, it likely is.
