The new 10-bed shelter for homeless youth will open its doors this week.
An open house is being held at Safe Harbour Transitional Youth Services on Broad Street before it opens officially tomorrow.
Residential Director Lindsay Gallagher tells CHSJ News this is a new project for the city and many of the agencies involved want to have a look but once the youth come in you don’t want a lot of people around for privacy reasons.
Gallagher says young people have different needs so it’s important that a 16 year old isn’t in the same facility as a 40 year old.
She adds they can stay for a night or for as long as 6 months as they transition to being on their own.
