Hospital Patients Will Be Asked To Rate Their Stay

Patients are going to be asked by the Horizon Health Network to rate their stay in hospital by filling out a survey when they’re sent home.

From this coming Monday to February 28th, all mental health and rehab patients over the age of 18 along with the parents and guardians of pediatric patients, who have spent at least one night in hospital, will be asked to fill out the survey.

The survey focuses on such areas as wait time, the quality of the food, cleanliness, how understandable instructions and explanations were, language of choice, the professionalism of hospital employees and hour courteous they were.

The Vice-President of Quality and Patient Centred Care at Horizon, Margaret Melanson says efforts are underway to improve the quality of food which gets the lowest rating. The overall satisfaction rate from the last survey in November was 78 per cent. The goal for most hospitals is a satisfaction rate of 90 per cent.

Melanson says Horizon takes the surveys seriously and changes have been made based on the feedback. They include better identification of Horizon staff members and better pain management.
