House Prices Fall In Saint John

Buying a home in Saint John cost a bit less during the first quarter of this year compared to this time last year.

The latest Royal LePage House Price Survey shows the aggregate price of a home fell 1.5 per cent to $205,196.

The median price of a two-storey home fell by 6.4 per cent to $209,997, while the median price of a bungalow jumped by 4.4 per cent to $200,133.

Spokesperson Stephen Hughson says the new stress test on mortgages has made it harder for homebuyers, increasingly causing deals to fall through.

But Hughson expects purchasers will likely soon adapt to the changes, especially since Saint John is one of the most affordable markets in Canada.

The aggregate price of a home climbed to $189,981 in Moncton and to $251,194 in Fredericton.

Nationally, the aggregate price of a home climbed 6.2 per cent to $605,512.
