How To Crack Down On High Drivers?

With laws surrounding marijuana use and possession becoming more lenient, concerns are being raised about those who get behind the wheel while high–and how police can more effectively catch drivers impaired by drugs other than alcohol.

Police Chief Bill Reid tells CHSJ News it’s possible we’ll see roadside testing devices here in the future. Such devices would be able to take a non-intrusive sample and get an instant reading to determine whether a driver is high, much like a breathalyzer.

In the meantime, says Reid, officers are trained to recognize the signs of impairment from various drugs and form a professional opinion.
