Huge CUPE Protest At N.B. Legislature

Thousands of striking CUPE workers marched through downtown Fredericton this afternoon on their way to the provincial legislature.

The striking government employees chanted and made lots of noise outside the legislative building which could be heard inside the chamber as MLA’s resumed sitting for this session.

CUPE representatives from across Canada arrived in buses to support their New Brunswick counterparts.

The labour dispute is now into its fifth day and wages and benefits have been the stumbling blocks in recent negotiations.

Services affected by the strike include cleaning, logistics, vaccination clinics and COVID-19 screening; ferry services, the school system, laundry services, correctional services, court stenography services, and adult and child protection services.
