Hurricane Irma Makes Landfall In The Lower Florida Keys

It’s looking like Hurricane Irma is making landfall in the Florida Keys and will hit the mainland this afternoon in the Fort Myers area, sparing Miami a direct hit. The Category 4 monster’s north eye wall has brought rain and strong winds, but the worst is yet to come when Irma pushes a 5 metre wall of water ashore. There are already 430,000 customers without power this morning and a curfew was imposed for the evacuated areas last night in order to keep those who have decided to weather the storm, indoors. Irma hit the Carribean earlier this week and destroyed 95 percent of the buildings on the tiny island of Barbuda.
