Imperial Theatre Launches $3M Capital Campaign To Fix Facade

The Imperial Theatre has just launched a $3-million capital campaign to fix the facade of the building called We Are *It.

Executive Director Lee Bolton says over a year ago they knew they had some issues though they believed they were just small repairs that had to be done.

“So we sent some folks up in a bucket truck and when they came back down they had discovered we had little bits of brick actually breaking on that top level so obviously we had to immediately install the netting,” says Bolton.

After more investigation other issues needing major repairs were discovered including to the brick, the terracotta and window lintels and structural beams.

The campaign is already almost at the halfway point according to Bolton. The federal government has contributed $700,000 to the campaign. Saint John-Rothesay MP Wayne Long says we can’t forget that our historical assests in this city are obviously very old.

“We need to make sure that we keep them updated and refurbished and restored, because again, it’s part of our history,” says Long.
