High-profile cases of domestic abuse, including the videotaped assault by suspended NFL player Ray Rice against his wife, Janay, have started some important conversations about domestic violence.
Tanya Moriarty of the Fredericton Sexual Assault Crisis Centre tells CHSJ News while it’s a disturbing issue, it’s one that needs to be talked about. She tells us some of the options for people in Saint John who have been victimized include the nurse examiner program–essentially, specially trained nurses that examine victims when they go to the hospital. A sexual assault response team has also been developed in the city.
