Two correctional officers had to be treated at hospital after an attack by an inmate.
Sergeant Jody Whyte with the Miramichi Police Force says the guards were transporting the inmate from the Atlantic Institution to Miramichi Hospital for treatment, at around 2am yesterday .
The inmate was armed with an edged weapon, and stabbed one correctional officer twice.
The correctional officers have been released from hospital.
The inmate has been returned to Renous and an investigation is underway.
