There is still no word on when New Brunswick’s Progressive Conservatives will choose a new permanent leader.
Glen Savoie has been serving as interim leader since Blaine Higgs resigned following October’s election loss.
The Saint John MLA said he expects the party’s leadership will be discussed during the next annual general meeting in the spring.
“We will likely get a committee, a leadership committee together then at that point to figure out how we’re going to organize for the leadership run. People will take on those roles and they’ll do a great job as they always do,” Savoie said in a year-end interview with our newsroom.
“We’ve got some really great people in the party who have a long history, so they know how these things work and we’ll make sure that we get the best person on board to take on this government in 2028.”

It is still anybody’s guess as to who will put their name in the race to lead the party on a more permanent basis.
We asked Savoie is this is something he may consider, but the MLA said it is not something he is thinking about.
“To be honest, not even on my radar. We have so much work to do to make sure that we’re ready day after day after day to take on this government and to hold them to account and to make sure that we’re ready to be a viable choice for people in 2028,” he said.
Savoie said if he were to run for the leadership, he would have to step back as interim leader so he would not have an advantage over other candidates.
