It is described by organizers as a shining celebration of Greater Saint John’s rich cultural tapestry.
The sixth International Culture Fest takes place along Water Street during the New Brunswick Day weekend.
Mohamed Bagha, managing director of the Saint John Newcomers Centre, said they are anticipating another strong turnout.
“We went from 5,000 the year before to 10,000 last year and we anticipate probably around the same levels this year,” Bagha said in an interview.
The two-day festival will include artistic performances, a cultural village, international street foods, a craft fair, and a street art project by local youth.
For the second year in a row, organizers are partnering with the AREA 506 music festival to make the event bigger and better.
“This festival will be for everybody. One of the things that it will do is it will help celebrate the talents and the culture that newcomers bring to a community,” said Bagha.
Darcy LeBlanc, director of operations at AREA 506, welcomes the partnership with International Culture Fest.
LeBlanc said AREA 506 celebrates the best of New Brunswick music, culture and goods, and this partnership allows them to highlight the many cultures that are a fabric of the province.
“It’s a unique opportunity to come together, to learn about one another, and appreciate the diversity that makes New Brunswick such a vibrant place to live,” said LeBlanc.
International Culture Fest takes place on Aug. 3 and 4.
