Irving Building At 300 Union Evacuated Due To Faulty Wiring In An Elevator

The Irving building at 300 Union was evacuated today due to smoke from faulty wiring in an elevator.

There was no fire, but some sort of odour which smelled like burnt wiring was detected.

Fire crews were on scene for roughly an hour after the initial call came in at 11 am.

Acting Platoon Chief Roy Byers say the fire alarm was activated because of an overheated wiring system in an elevator which resulted in some smoke on the 13th floor.

There were roughly 750 people inside.

Byers says the area was ventilated and access to the building has since been re-opened.
