Jury Back This Morning For Deliberations at Saint John Murder Trial

The jury in the second degree murder trial of Fred Cormier Junior will continue its deliberations this morning. The jury of 7 women and 5 men began deliberating around 4 yesterday afternoon and went until shortly before 9 last night. The jurors wanted to hear the 9-1-1 call again.

Cormier is charged in the stabbing death of 23-year-old Spencer Eldridge on Lancaster Street last Spring. During closing arguments the prosecution told the jury this is not a case of self defense. The prosecution is asking the jury to think about Cormier’s choices by choosing to arm himself with a buck knife, choosing to open the door to confront Eldridge and choosing to stab him.

The defense is arguing this is a case of self defense pointing to the threatening text messages Cormier received from Eldridge earlier.

The jury was told this whole tragic situation was over a woman who had gone out with Eldridge before breaking up and established a relationship with Cormier.
