Justice Minister In SJ To Discuss Criminal Justice Legislation

Justice Minister Peter MacKay visiting the Port City to sit in on a roundtable discussion at M-P Rodney Weston’s office on new criminal justice legislation brought forward by the feds.

MacKay says their conversation will be focusing on the victims bill of rights also known as Bill C-32, which he says would make sure there’s greater fairness inclusion and respect for victims in the criminal justice system.

He tells us he did an extensive consultation in the last year going to all the provinces and territories and meeting with people to hear directly from them about their experience with the justice system and says it was startling to hear anecdotally about the lack of confidence victims had and the sense that change had to come.

The conversation with the legal community in the city also including legislation that addresses online criminality including cyberbullying, cyber fraud and cyberterrorism.
