Here’s a different way of helping street people in need instead of giving any spare change you might have directly to panhandlers.
A “Kindness Meter” or “Meter for Change” has been installed on Germain Street at King beside the CIBC where you can insert any spare change you might want to part with.
City Police and the Parking Commission got together on the initiative which is being done in other cities.
Nancy Tissington of Uptown Saint John says the money will go to programs and agencies that help the needy. She says more than $800 was raised in just one week in Fredericton.
