With the temperatures outside now dipping below the freezing mark, the Kennebecasis Valley Fire Department reminding you to take precautionary measures to avoid getting carbon monoxide poisoning in your home.

Heating units like space heaters and wood stoves and cooking devices that burn off fuel can be sources of carbon monoxide which is called the invisible killer because the gas can’t be seen or smelled.

K-V Fire says you should install carbon monoxide alarms outside each sleeping area and it’s best to use interconnected alarms so that when one alarm sounds they all sound. You should also be testing those alarms at least once a month.

You’re also being reminded to never use a stove or oven to heat your home and when warming a vehicle move it out of the garage. Click here for more information.
