KV Hockey Team Collects Food Donations

A minor hockey team in the Kennebecasis Valley is once again collecting donations for local food banks.

It is part of the annual Give Back Challenge through the KV Minor Hockey Association.

Scott Nelson, coach of the KV Atom AA Hawks, said this year is bigger and better than ever.

“A friend of mine at Ecoheat, owner Jay Fuller, partnered up with us and he brought in NHL legend Chris Nilan, who’s coming in to sign some autographs and take some pictures,” said Nelson.

Players from Nelson’s team and eight others will try to fill a trailer at Ecoheat, located at the corner of Hampton Road and Clark Road, from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Doiron Sports has donated the enclosed trailer they will be filling, he said.

Nelson said they feel it is important for their players to give back to the community.

“As a hockey team, we try to teach the kids that it’s not just about hockey and it’s not just about playing the sport, but also playing as a team and giving back,” he said.

The food and monetary donations will be distributed to food banks in the KV and Saint John.

Nelson said other Atom AA teams will also be running other food drives during December.
