Lack Of Qualified French Teachers In New Brunswick A Concern For Teachers Association President

There seems to be a growing shortage of French teachers in the only officially bilingual province in Canada.

School Districts have had to resort to hiring people from Europe or other countries, under what is known as contract C’s.

We asked the president of the New Brunswick Teachers Association, George Daley, about this practice.

Daley says ” These people have a particular skill set but do not have a teaching degree, this certainly would not be our preference, however, we realize that there are some situations that they can’t find the qualified people.

Daley also says “we are hearing that there a larger than anticipated number for sure of Contract C’s.”

Daley says the issue at hand is a shortage of French teachers across the country, not just in New Brunswick.
