Latest Unemployment Rates

Stats Canada reports 66 hundred new jobs were created across the country last month but that didn’t change the unemployment rate which stayed at 6.8 per cent.

The unemployment rate in Saint John increased by almost a full percentage point to 8.2 percent.

David Thomas of Enterprise Saint John says as far as the actual numbers are concerned, the region held steady but 70 well paying jobs at Moosehead will be gone by the end of next month. On the other side of the coin, the new Nordia call centre in Prince Edward Square has opened and the modernisation of the port on the west side will generate over a thousand well paying jobs.

The New Brunswick unemployment rate rose from 10.8 to 11 percent and in Moncton, it went from 7.9 up to to 8 per cent.
