Lewis Expected Today’s Result On Election Night

A UNB Saint John political scientist says he expected the Liberal government to fall since election night adding it was clear the Liberals didn’t have the numbers and he never felt there was any momentum for the Liberal government to survive.

JP Lewis notes that while this is uncommon, our system can work this way.

“Everyone has been playing within the rules, we have no constitutional crisis. The incumbent government does get to challenge to see if they can test the confidence of the house. It’s just highly uncommon, especially in a province where two parties have dominated for so long.” Lewis says.

Lewis thinks PC leader Blaine Higgs could have a government on a better footing and a PC government should be functioning for a while.
