Liberal Candidate For Saint Croix Byelection Steps Down

The Liberal candidate for a byelection in the riding of Saint Croix has stepped down.

Liberal leader Kevin Vickers says he was advised by Karen Ludwig this week that she has accepted a senior position with Yorkville University.

Vickers says they are disappointed with losing her as a candidate, but they understand it was not an easy decision.

The Saint Croix and Shediac Bay-Dieppe byelection, which were set for this month, had to be postponed due to COVID-19.

“Although it was anticipated that the Saint Croix byelection would be held this spring, like many other activities, the pandemic has caused it to be put on hold. It is hard to ask someone to put their life on hold indefinitely and so Karen’s decision to accept this exciting career opportunity is understandable,” Vickers says.

Vickers is once again urging the premier Higgs to call the byelections before the fall sitting of the New Brunswick Legislature.
