Liberals Win Majority Government

Contrary to what the polls indicated, the federal Liberals won a majority government.

They swept every seat in Atlantic Canada, going on to win a total of 184.

The Conservatives finished up with 99 with leader Stephen Harper announcing that he’s stepping down.

The NDP has 44 seats, the Bloc Quebecois winning 10 though party leader Gilles Duceppe lost his own riding and the Green Party capturing just one seat in B-C with leader Elizabeth May re-elected.

Voter turnout was 68 per cent, 7 percentage points higher than for the 2011 federal election.
