Local Author Publishes Post-Apocalyptic Novel Set In Saint John

Ever imagine what a post-apocalyptic world would be like in Saint John?

Local author Chris Jessulat has published his first novel titled “The Decline”.

Jessulat is originally from Moncton but has been living in Saint John for close to ten years.

The book follows the story of a man from Finland who’s trying to survive in a post-apocalyptic world and his travels have led him to Saint John, New Brunswick.

Jessulat says he wanted to bring in a character who was foreign to Canada so some of the stories in the setting could unfold around someone who isn’t familiar with the scenery.

He says it has a natural parallel towards the elements of isolation and feeling alone.

The novel explores the realities of being from a small community in Canada and the implications to something like a zombie outbreak.

Jessulat calls the novel more of a post-apocalyptic book that just happens to include zombies, as opposed to a pure zombie “in your face” type of book.
