Local Golfer Will Be Inducted Into The NB Sports Hall Of Fame In June

A local golfer who is the only Maritimer to ever win the Canadian Amateur Golf Championship now has a place at the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame.

In 1992, three months after being diagnosed with skin cancer, Darren Ritchie beat Mike Weir at the Riverside Golf and Country Club.

The Saint John native remembers when he was first diagnosed by his doctor and says it changed his mental approach not only to golf, but to life.

He calls winning the championship at home “something very special”.

tickets for the Induction Ceremony and Banquet on June 4th in Shippagan are available by contacting the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame’s office at 453-3747 or visiting their website: bit.ly/1T016GU
