Local Track And Field Athletes Win National Medals

A couple of local athletes picked up medals for Team New Brunswick at the Canadian Legion Track and Field Championship in Brandon, Manitoba, over the weekend.

Erin Vringer of Saint John captured gold in the U16 1200m with a time of 3:32.93, breaking her own provincial record.

Vringer also competed in the 2000m and 1500m steeplechase and placed third in both events, with a time of 6:23.50 and 4:56.59, respectively.

Her performance in the 1500m steeplechase broke another one of her previous provincial records.

Craig Thorne of Quispamsis competed in the U18 110m hurdles with a final time of 14.21, earning him a bronze medal and a new provincial record.

Thorne also competed in the 400m hurdles and finished in first place with a time of 54.42, which also earned him another provincial record.

A total of 37 athletes competed for Team New Brunswick and came home with a total of six medals and six provincial records.
